Village Fête and Fell Run 2008

Wincle Fête 31 May 2008, Burnt House Farm, Wincle

The 2008 Wincle fete was once again fortunate to benefit from a warm and sunny day.  This coupled with the dramatic location of Burnt House Farm, a fully subscribed senior Fell Run and an enormous crowd to enjoy the main ring events and sideshows made for a wonderful event.  Thanks to everyone for their help in the organisation and running of the Fete and the Fell Runs,  which although over a new and very tough courses this year seem from the initial feedback to have been thoroughly enjoyed.

You can see hundreds of pictures of the day by clicking on the links lower down this page (and thank you to Chris Smith of www.twentytrees.co.uk for the images used here).

The 2009 Fete will be held at Mellor Knowl Farm on Saturday 30 May.

Sunday Lunch: A Fabulous Family Fundraising Feast 1 June

This year, and only this year, the traditional meal in the marquee on the Sunday after the event was replaced by a charity lunch in aid of the Wincle School Classroom Fund, which still has some way to go to pay for the new building work. The lunch was a buffet, with 'home-grown' entertainment, music and games, and as many as 200 people tucked into a delicious meal prepared by parents. An additional £2,000 was raised on the day, so thank you to all who helped or attended.

Scarecrow Competition

An excellent turn out by scarecrows again this year, surviving the gales but not, alas, for some, the efforts of dastardly kidnappers (You know who you are!). Thanks to all who made them, and to Roger and Jackie Trimble for performing the arduous duty of judging all 46 entries, scattered far and wide across the parish and beyond.

And the winners were:

2nd Tomb Raider by the Brightmore family
3rd Gulliver & the Lilliputs by the Curtis family
Special Prize We're Watching U, the policeman at Sandiway Farm, by the Page family

Group Entries
1st Queen & Prince Phillip's Diamond Anniversary by Heaton Village
2nd Maypole Dancers by Wincle School Teachers
3rd Strictly Come Danecing (sic) by Danebridge Residents

2nd Harry Potter by Miles Clapham

And you can read lots of rave reviews by this year's runners on the Runners' World website. They seem to have enjoyed it every bit as much as last year, despite the new climb at the finish!
